Training and Contracted Hours.

I was wondering if you may be able to help me.

I am contracted to 140 hours per month. I work nights (21.00 - 07.00)
I have been with the company for nearly four years now, and my company keep putting me on mandatory training which happens to coincide with my shifts, so I lose two shifts (20 hours) for one 7.5 hour training course, which they do pay me for but I lose thirteen hours pay to attend this.

Individuals whom are on day shifts, also get paid 7.5 hours per training course, but this benefits them because training is the same length if not shorter than a day shift. So they do not lose any money, or go below their contracted hours.

Can my employers do this?
Should I be getting paid my contracted hours - regardless, as having the shifts off is not through fault of my own.

I understand that the training is to benefit me, but this appears to be happening more often, which is resulting in a loss of wage.

Thank you for any help,
Shannon and Kirri and Linda

If you are definitely contracted to 140 hours per month, then yes, that is what you should be paid for. However, it could be worth posting exactly what your contract says on this.

    No, not at all.
    What do the company say?

But if you are contracted to 140 hours a month you should get that, they should give you other shifts to make up the shortfall.

Is the training taking place during the day or at the same time as part of your shift? In the former case, why can't you arrange to do a part shift to make up your hours, in the latter, just go into work before and/or after the training and complete the hours of your shift.
