Hi

I ran the patch and the laptop did an update when I switched off the laptop.

Now when I try and log on - there's no cursor and no keys seem to work.

Does anyone have any ideas please? The laps is not a couple of months old!

Thanks

It's a HP Pavilion running Windows. A HP patch was released today to stop keyloggiing.. So that's why I'm worried it's the cause of the patch.

The laptop is only a couple of months old. It's a sealed unit - I can't see how take the battery out.

Try starting in safe mode by pressing F8 (or Esc if that doesn't work) during boot. Once in see if you can roll back the patch.
  • Does the touchpad work? If so move the mouse to the right hand corner of the log in screen and click on the assistive tech icon (I will find a picture in a bit) then select on screen keyboard that may allow you to more stuff.

  • Safe Mode as suggested earlier.

Follow the general guide here, but instead of Graphics Drivers, you want to get rid of the Synaptics Touchpad Driver.

Though really, this is a matter for HP. Your machine is under warranty and they are wholly responsible for the debacle.

2+ ways for you to get osk working

windows key + r and type (or paste from above) osk

start > command prompt type (or paste from above) osk

[STRIKE]In file explorer > in the location bar[/STRIKE] do the wrong thing here you could wipe files

on the taskbar, right click and select task manager > file > run new task > type (or paste from above) osk

Yeh, perhaps not what you wanted, better than nothing

Some days you're a statue, others you're the pigeon. ;)

Bootable linux disk and install (as in copy over a portable version) vlc in the start directory. Or if your powershell knowledge is up to date Windows remote desktop ...or some other remote access tool

Another way is to get a Hiren boot CD, and both backup the registry then with the remote registry editor inspect/change the keyboard/language registry settings
