Pay voluntary NI contributions!?

Just reporting that I made the follow up call today to make sure the contribution payment made by bank transfer went to 16/17.
I already have my voice recognition set up so no lists of security questions.
The phone was answered immediately even though there was the "we are very busy message" and the payment put to the 16/17 year whilst I was on the phone.
The payment and new rate updated immediately on the NI part of the Government Gateway site and I should now get £132-97 if the 17/18 'free' contribution year is properly applied.
Easy and rather impressed.

This is why I declined the offer of a reference number to pay by BACS straight away. I asked for a bill to be sent and will pay that when it arrives. According to them the bill should arrive within 30 days of request.
Well the bill I requested on 18th December still hasn't arrived!
I called them again yesterday and they confirmed that they had the request and said that it will be looked at soon.0 -
Finally received a letter from HMRC... only for them to say they are "unable to provide a payslip at this time".
They gave details of how to make an online payment and I'll give this a go. They gave no instruction to ring in two weeks time to state which year the payment is for (as had been mentioned in a previous thread) so without a payslip I've no idea whether or not they'll know what the payment refers to!0 -
Still by far the simplest and most reliable way IMHOCheque in the post has always been easiest for me
