The following website sust-it.net rates all white goods including washing machines on their energy usage over a year so handy if you are looking for something economical to use and save money over time.
Only problem is they dont give the actual cost of buying the washing machines so you need to bit of looking around:

I've just bought a Bosch and I can recommend it. Quiet, easy to use and efficient. Got it from here but you may find it cheaper elsewhere.

Second vote for Bosch from the Co-op, though we bought the WAE24162 (which we are very happy with) :

They deliver promptly in the slot they say and deliver faster than Dixons, etc.
