You say fault is ambiguous, but also say the car was on the wrong side of the road - how is that ambiguous?

Because I suspect we only have one version of the events. The damage description was also "ambiguous" - "light bumper damage" suggests some form of impact, which isn't very consistent with "some side scraping" on the other car. I think it's more likely that we are looking at both parties being at fault, rather than no fault. So yes, possibly the other car was on the wrong side of the road (overtaking another vehicle?), but maybe there are other factors on both sides that suggested neither party wanted to involve the police - such as speeding? Or maybe the OP is more tolerant than me, because if I was involved in a collision that resulted from the other party driving down the wrong side of the road, I sure as hell would have called the police. I'd consider it a public service to do so, before the idiot could kill someone!

Pure supposition on my part, but maybe the OP wasn't bothered about the actions of the other driver because he assumed it would be covered by company insurance and wouldn't hit him in the pocket?
As you say, if I was involved in an accident caused by the other party being on the wrong side of the road I'd be kicking up stink.
