12 month contract - will I get a mortgage?

Hi,

I'm on a 12 month contract at work which I have just started. Will I still be able to get a mortgage? I'll be buying a flat with my other half so won't be doing it alone but we need both salaries for us to buy?

When I first started looking I was on a 6 month contract, and the banks I enquired with would only lend if that was my normal pattern of employment (contract to contract) As I had just come out of a job I'd done for over 6 years I didnt qualify for that so I had to wait until my contract was made permanent.

It may not be your experience, just sharing mine!

Your best bet would be to speak to a broker. Some lenders do consider people on contracts, usually with a minimum of 6 months left on the contract.

As above. Speak to a broker?

Assuming you have a history of contracting or you are now contracting in a field of experience / expertise?

Ok, well yes you should be able to get a mortgage.

I'll repeat though, find a broker. This isnt one of them where you just walk into a bank on the high street
