Hi, hope no-one minds me joining in.

I had Gladular Fever in 2005, about 3 weeks after we came back from Disneyland Paris. I was 24, coming up 25 at the time.

It absolutely zapped the life out of me, and I was like a ragdoll. I was suffering quite badly for a good few months and I had loads of time off work. It was quite difficult to explain how knackered I was and only people who had experienced the illness before seemed to understand what I was going through.

I've been quite surprised to see this topic come up today. Since 2005 I have had quite a few periods of time when I've been a bit run down and under the weather and I have started with the symptoms but in a milder form. This happened again about 2 weeks ago and has knocked me for six. My doctor has put me an a weeks worth of antibiotics but I can't say they've had effect. I have now also developed an infection in one of my wisdom teeth, so I've been in agony for nearly a week now.

As beefcarrot said, I was given the regular GF blood tests numerous times in 2005 and every time the results came back negative even though my GP was adamant what it was.

It's interesting to see other people are in the same boat and it isn't just me over-exaggerating. It literally makes your limbs go to jelly and it's like nothing I have experienced before.

Now this post has been resurrected, it will be interesting to find out what other people have been experiencing.

    Hey 4li5on.

You sound a lot like me, except I was diagnosed earlier this year.

I feel like people feel I'm wasting their time to be honest, almost like I am inventing the exhaustion and tiredness. :(

4li5on - Glandular fever is a virus so I don't know what your GP was hoping to achieve, putting you on antibiotics.

If you've never felt right since getting the illness, or have recurring spells of ill health, talk to the doctor about Post-Viral Fatigue Syndrome and M.E.

Mojisola - The antibiotics were nothing to do with Gladular Fever - I had 'symptoms' but not the illness. I've got a throat/ear infection and pericoronitis.
I've been very well and healthy since 2005, as I said in my previous post, I've felt symptomatic, but I wouldn't say it was anything serious.

LadyMorticia - it can be hard to express how you feel when visibly you look ok. Try and take it easy but keep fighting it at the same time, if you see what I mean?

Please make sure that she gets plenty of rest! This is vital.

I had glandular fever when I was fifteen. I had a week off school and went back in on monday and tuesday of the second week. I ended up collapsing and had to be taken home and spent another 3 weeks in bed, which i have no recollection of. Apart from my mum trying to make me touch my chin to my chest in case i had meningitis.

Anyway, I don't think i rested as much as I should have done as I had to get back to school asap as I was in the middle of my Highers.

I am now 22 and have had ME for 4 years which the doctor thinks was a result of the glandular fever.

I hope she is ok just now as I know how horrible it is. Even if she's desperate to go out and see her friends as soon as she feels a bit better, make sure she's well rested. HTH x
  • My husband had glandular fever as a teenager and for years afterwards had ' glandular' symptoms. Our doctor referred him to a homeopathist who gave him Calc carb tablets and it was the best thing ever! It definitely helped him.
