Drug tests are carried out routinely on bigger construction sites...also one such company Skanska i believe or might have been Country side, also had a zero alcohol policy on site and that included the boot of your car.
This time of year id often carry several bottles of decent ish booze as a Thank you and hope to be back next year for site agents, was told either get rid of them next day or dont come back onto site, there site and they make the rules.0 -
My partner’s son works for a bus company, as a driver, and they do random drink and drugs test. If you fail you are sacked immediately. And quite right, too.
I must admit to being surprised that some posters think there is no drug testing in companies in the UK0 -
The drugs testing situation in most companies is fairly inconsistent as drug tests will only detect a few types of drugs, and will show as positive for using a drug even if there's only a trace level which has no actual effect on the person because they used it days ago.
I'd hate to work for a company that drugs tests employees that aren't operating machinery/vehicles, it's an intrusion on personal life.0 -
Most workplaces that are like what you have described always seem to have problems with drug use and employees in general being off their tits. I think it comes with the "manly" work culture of heavy machinery and folk lift trucks, as well as the endless temp agency workers these places always have on too.
Heard lots of same stories from family/friends before.0
