  • Not forgetting basic "female supplies" (ie for dealing with periods).

Has she got a small transistor radio? - nice to be able to have a bit of general music and "chat" from it.

    Bedding?

    Hot water bottle or two?
  • Hot water bottle is a good idea for this time of year. Psychologically very comforting.

How about a couple of notebooks and pens- there may be a lot of info (ie joint accounts, tenancy stuff) she made need to make notes on.

Charity shops are usually overstocked just after Christmas, so she should be able to pick up some bargains then.

What a smashing supportive friend you are I hope the move goes peacefully for her.

I would add a packet of chocolate digestive biscuits or a big bar of chocolate, a little 'treat', and chocolate is a great 'comfort' treat, :) maybe a pair of bedsocks to keep her feet warm in the cold January weather

Fantastic ideas here, but just wanted to add that you are giving the most important thing - friendship and support.

I so hope your friend gets the clean break she needs and the past stays there x

My personal "essential" to add to all the great ideas here would be a packet of peppermints.

I'm not overly bothered about chocolate myself, but I never ever go anywhere without a packet of those mints-with-the-hole in my bag. :o

May I wish your friend all the very best; it takes a lot of bottle to extract yourself from a toxic relationship (I know, I did it back in 2002) and I wish her nothing but good things from here on.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • What a good friend.
Going by advice here, youll be buying a months worth of stuff! :)

But thinking back to moving house in a hurry, its always going to be quick-to-cook, long-life stuff thats most useful, versatile stuff that can be cooked on a hob or using the kettle; and milk/coffee/tea, and loo roll/soaps.
There may not be a fridge or cooker initially.

have a delve in your own cupboards for odds and ends. I know my cupboard under the sink is where my Dd when a bit broke can always find odds and ends of cleaning stuff when she runs short

You are all missing the most important thing about dealing with new found freedom - a bottle of wine or cheap sparkly to celebrate being rid of the t%sspot and the start of a new life.
  • As we are now looking beyond the kitchen....

A sim card for her Mobile ? (or a cheap no frills necessary new mobile)...to ensure that t*sser can't harass her on the number he presumably knows.

A magazine/puzzle book(and pen!)/paperback book....last time I moved in something of a hurry it took a few days to get things like the TV licence and Internet sorted...so these would occupy her in the evenings.

A new keyring for her new house-key

And whilst she is with you, make time to do a Charity Shop trawl.....you can pick up stuff like crockery for a few pounds....some places will do small electrical goods too (kettle....toaster...small portable heater)
  • I would also think about toiletries, these can be quite expensive, your choice as wether to treat her to some nice smellies or just everyday items but don't forget about sanitary towels or similar depending on her age. I always donate these when our supermarkets have collections for the needy, i also took all the odd packets that no one liked or used anymore from the back of the bathroom cupboards to a women's shelter and they were delighted. Can you imagine not being able to change as often as you want or worse, I used to feel miffed if I couldn't have my favourite brand!

    Good luck.
