    Ours is very simple, neither of us like huge portions of anything.

    Scrambled egg and smoked salmon on bagels with fizz for breakfast. Yep fizz for breakfast. OK once a year I reckon!

    Lunch/Dinner, homemade veg soup with cream and home made brown soda bread with REAL butter.

    After an hour or so, salmon en crutches (en croute ha ha), roast, mash and croquettes, roasted root veg and that's it.

    Cheese and bikkies to nibble at through the evening.

    Plenty of wine and brandy to finish it (and us!) off.

    Baileys coffee at some point.

    Hic.

    It's as much about the drinks as the food here as you can see!

    Yes we have 5 veg at Christmas, not everyone in my family eat all the veg options and I like to do at least 3 for everyone, I myself eat all 5 veg. I cook a Turkey, pigs In blankets and gravy for everyone else, as a vegitarian thre is little space to cook for me so usually have five veg, roast pots and cheese sauce, so I like a good choice of veg.

    You have 3 potato options!

    Our plates are no bigger than normal! We just have the same amount of veg, just more choice.

    I do serve it at the table in dishes as I don't remember who eats what, so usually cook more than we would eat, but any left overs are turned into veg soup for work lunches.

    I’m another one who sees no point in starters on Christmas Day (but that’s usually because we’ve already had a load of snacky stuff with wine).

    This year will be at mine and even though it will be the blandest I have ever cooked, I am so excited! For once it will be traditional, and I’d like to buy a nice veggie (preferably vegan and non-quorn) main from a supermarket that I can just stick in the oven with the roast potatoes. Recommendations?

  • We usually have a festive meal on Christmas Eve (a tradition we brought back after living in France) where I try my hand at more daring recipes (I'm usually a chuck it all in a pot kind of gal). This year it will be on the 21st as my sister and bil are coming up for a couple of days then heading home for Xmas with his family. I'm doing

    Goats cheese cheesecake
    Chicken forestiere
    Black forest chocolate cups

    Christmas day will just be myself, OH and my mum. OH will have nut roast and I'll get a pheasant or mallard for us girls. Not sure about veg yet. Think I'll skip doing a starter. Xmas pud for afters with brandy butter. Not that bothered about the pud, but I do love brandy butter!

    Thought I’d join in.

    Doing Xmas dinner on Xmas Eve this year as my girls will be at their dad’s for Xmas Day dinner.

    Starter
    Smoked salmon on Irish soda bread for the adults
    Bacon lardons on Irish soda bread for the kiddies.

    Plus, these snowmen steamed buns that Mr. M. are doing look amazing, so we have bought a packet of them to make the table look nice.

    Main
    Roast chicken (nobody likes turkey), mum’s pigs in blankets (best ever), red cabbage, sprouts and any other veg knocking around the freeze, roast potatoes, gravy.

    Dessert
    Cake in the shape of a Xmas tree (will let the kids decide chocolate or plain)
    Profiterole tower from Lidl which looks good.

    Sounds like you want to eat turkey for the sake of eating turkey. You can have whatever you want for Xmas dinner, doesn't have to be traditional.
