Extra £10 on state pension

my mother was paid an extra £10 on her pension this week, does anyone know if this is an error or is it normal at this time of year? Thanks, P

yes, the payment is coded "XB" for Xmas Bonus .It has been that way and that amount for many years.
Its for everyone who receives State Pension not just widows.

The Xmas bonus was introduced in 1972.when the basic pension was £6.75 so was a sizeable sum of money then.0

I get my State Pension in 6 months, so I can look forward to this next year. Not too impressed though, it won't even pay for half a round of golf.0
