I wouldnt like to risk it on anythink with fats in, as they can go rancid, but how would I know how old the brown rice was?

Not so bothered about stuff like plain pasta or tinned stuff except tomatoes.

They are not ditching the 'best before' dates; they are selling food that reaches that date very cheaply instead of dumping it.

Anything sold under this scheme will have the date on the packet or tin so you will be able to see how far past that date it is.

'Best before' isn't the same as 'Use by' - the second is to do with food safety; the first just refers to a possible deterioration in flavour and texture.
  • Thats good to know, thanks.

I think some things are better than others, eg I would be fine with lentils but not oats. I suppose it allows more room for common sense
