De'Longhi Magnifica..Bean To Cup

I bought the De'Longhi Magnifica Bean to Cup...Coffee Machinein Amazon’s Black Friday sale as it did seem a good price. I really haven’t made up my mind about it yet. Realistically for £198 I wasn’t expecting an all singing, all dancing machine

The plus’s: yes it is easy to use, I’m not to fused about the noise, don’t let this put you off, and it does looks well.

My one major concern, part of the reason I’m here is that the actual coffee, when the control is set to maximum heat and measured by an instant read thermometer shows 70 degrees. This is immediately after the coffee is poured.

Specialist coffee sights suggest that this should be in the mid to upper 90’s. A warm cup doesn’t really help but I can heat it up with the steam wand.

Is this a faulty machine? I don’t know, I’m still playing with the settings.

Will I keep it? Well I know I have 28 days to return the item. I don’t particularly want to do that.

If anyone has/had this machine and would care to share their views and any tips they have, especially regarding the coffee temperature, I sure would be grateful

An espresso not really, it’s just lukewarm. An Americano when you add boiling water it tastes fine.
I’ve only had the machine for a few days so I’ve really not made up my mind

Sounds like you should return it. You should be loving the results for £200! Hubby makes beautiful coffee with his cafetiere (which cost £6!) so I'd expect something stunning for that price

I suppose it's a case of whether you'd rather have a lukewarm espresso you didn't enjoy, but with the convenience of a machine, or £200 back in your pocket..

Do not the buttons via settings control the temp.
They do on my DeLonghi EC680 a superb machine .

I have an ESAM4200 that I saved from the bin at work. I don't know if the temperature is adjustable on mine.

I find there are two factors that impact on the flavour though.

The beans have a big impact. I used to buy cheaper beans from LIDL, which I found the coffee would either taste very bitter or very odd. When I swapped to some better beans, I found significantly more flavour and aroma.

However, it might seem counter intuitive but the biggest thing for me is lack of use. The less I use it, the more I find my first few cups when returning to regular use will taste a bit grim. I've been told this is because coffee leaves behind coffee 'oils' and these get in various pipes and corners and they can really affect the flavour of the coffee. I have read about cleaners, but I think just running more coffee through seems to keep on top of it.

That said, I am going to give mine an intensive clean over the next few weeks.

Im beginning to understand what’s happening. I’m discovering that if before pulling the first coffee if I run hot water through the machine it significantly raises the temperature but I’ll have to do a few more trials before making up my mind. But the coffee is tasting much better

I have an£9.95 grinder from Ikea, an old filter coffe machine and use ALDI beans at £1.89 for 220g pack. The coffee tastes as good as coffee shop coffee.

We've got the Magnifica machine and it's really good. Coffee is definitely not luke warm. It's probably worthwhile calling De Longhi and asking them what they suggest. They are extremely helpful and if necessary will probably arrange to collect it from you, look at it and return to you.

It's what they did with ours when we had a problem but that wasn't immediately after buying it.

If they can't help you can always send it back to Amazon.
