In a business, which department would you say should be preparing quotations for parts/items/products and sending them out to customers?

The department whose job that is. Could be sales, could be customer service, could be manufacturing, could be general admin, could be the managers0 -
It depends how long the string is.
There is no one answer, it depends on the business/size and how they structure it and what they call the department.
Depending on the products it can be anything from "Technical Pre-Sales" through to "Office Junior with Office Manager checking/signing" or "whoever's handy".0 -
The person/department preparing the quotes won't necessarily be the same one responsible for typing them up and sending them out.0

What do you mean preparing quotes?
Printing them out? Taking orders? Putting them in the post? - I think that there'll be a general trend towards
Sales quoting
Finance / Admin printing
Mailroom posting
But in a small company the customer service agent might do all of the above.0 -
Clearly it is the quote master and only them!Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0

The Quotations Department.
It is headed up by the aforementioned quote master, and staffed by numerous underlings, known as "quote scrotes".
But to answer what you're really asking, it's you if your boss tells you to.0 -
