open ended contract?

Hi,

What is an open ended contract? I've tried to google it and some sites say it's same with permanent contract some say the company has a start date but no end date. So the company can get rid of you anytime? Is it the same as temporary contract?

Thanks.

  • An open contract guarantees the company to have the employee for indefinite time. It is good for both parties because if the employee no longer wants to work the contract is canceled, or on the contrary the employer values that the employee does not meet the expectations of the company can cut it

In employment law terms it doesn't really mean very much.

Employment law says an employer can dismiss you during the first two years for pretty much any reason (with a few exceptions for discrimination and the like).

Once you've 2 years service, you have unfair dismissal protection even if you are on a temporary contract.

Agreed. The "contract names" are now an anachronism. It used to make a difference in the past. No longer. It's length of service of any kind as an employee that matters.
