Just try letting MBNA know that you're considering a zero interest transfer to one of their competitors and see what they offer.

If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

    hi,

just wanted to say welcome .... and that maybe you should get a copy of your credit report I think Martin mentions a way to get it cheaply or even for free then you will know where you stand.

Too many applications in a short period will affect you ability to get credit but the record disappears after a year so the effect isn't permanent.

Just make sure you pay the MBNA one on time every month and that will increase your rating over time, along with managing a current account well and a mobile phone.

    xx
  • Are you on the electoral role? I know not being can affect credit so worth investigating that. Definately get a copy of your credit report to see whats what & why you are being refused. Hope you sort it.

  • Yes, ensure you are on the electoral roll. I was not and applied for a Capital One no interest card, and was turned down. Got myself on the electoral roll, gave it a few months, applied to American Express and got accepted. And now I'm happy! Got to cut up my two old credit cards (the two you see in my sig) and concentrate spending solely on the AmEx, so I get bonus points, then pay it all off each month. A revolution!

So yes, electoral roll, then do some shopping to see what the best CC is. Also get a free credit report from Experian and make sure all your details are correct. Another small thing is to make sure your address is completely correct when you apply for credit - check it against the royal mail database on their website, and enter your address exactly as it appears there. I had problems in the past because my parent's house has one name on the door, and a completely different 'official' name, and whenever I used the casual one I would get rejected.
