M&S 3 for 2 offers - returning one item?

Hi,

I've been looking to get couple of things in the M&S Xmas 3 for 2 offer. One of the items I'm not sure will work on my mobile (VR glasses)... How would M&S refund it if I only return one item? Had a look on website and it says that "refunds will take the discount into account", but it doesn't say how it is applied.

E.g. Three items bought, price £10 each, £20 paid. Returning on item...will they say that since the item price was £10 and you have effectively only bought two, no refund is due or would they refund me £6.67?

I once did this and they gave me a third of the total back but that was a year or so ago so maybe the policy has changed.

Thanks. Will take the other items with me in case they say no refund is due and return the other items as well (Nothing I can't live without and most likely can pick them up again in the January sales if so needed..)
