How is holiday pay calculated?

Hello

I work as a Software Developer and I am on £48K a year.

I handed in my notice about a month ago and I had 9 days holidays that I wanted to take off. The Development Manager said they couldn't allow me the 9 days because I was the only resource on the project, instead, they would pay me for my 9 days.

How much should I be getting for 9 days of work? Is there a way I can work this out for myself? I got paid, but I feel it is less than what I should be getting!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

    Sorry wrong question.

Assuming you work 5 days a week 52 weeks a year, you work 260 days.

    £48,000 / 260 days = £184.62 day rate

    X 9 days

    =

£1661.54 (or 58p it depnds if they round on the day or the total)

The take home will be less due to NIC, tax and pensions.

Thanks Spadoosh, but this doesn't tell me how much the company should pay me for those 9 days. It only tells me how many days Holiday I have (legally).

I don't pay into my pension, but I do pay Tax and NIC. I only got paid £400 more than my usual monthly pay. So something must definitely be wrong.

    Sorry, barrage of questions coming.

Speak to the employer and ask how theyve calculated it.

I'd imagine youve been paid for less days. Where did you get the 9 days from?

    When does leave year start?
When was you final finish date?
What holidays are you entitled to and how many have you taken?

Holidays are calculated from Jan to Dec.

Today is my last day, and I got paid today. According to the employee online tool, I had 9 days holiday remaining. I have sent Payroll an email :)

Hi Gary, I did, but I was expecting a payment of around £1000 for those 9 days. Instead, I got paid £400. They owe me money the way I see it!

  • I will try to make it easier. Normally you accrue holidays for each month that you work.

For example if you have 24 days per a year then it will be 2 days per a month accrued.

What is your holiday allowance for the year?
How much holiday have you taken?

I just checked the online tool again. I have 60.5 hours holiday remaining. That's about 8 days, not 9. I was mistaken about the number of days. It is 8 days holiday remaining.
