Reclaim single person discount 25% on Council Tax

I live in a flat by myself and have been paying my council tax with the 25% for a while.

I haven't had the reduction for the whole time I have been living here, so can I claim it back?

There is nothing to stop a discount being claimed for retrospectively and backdated.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
