Unable to travel - refund?

Options
I bought tickets for four to travel through 'take the train'

Two bookings -
Crewe to Manchester - Off Peak Day Return - £28.60
Manchester to Durham - Off Peak Return - £173.80

Sadly, one member fell down the stairs at Crewe and broke her arm so the trip was aborted and no tickets were used.

I've downloaded the 'TTT Refund Application Form' but before I waste too much time, I see that there's a £10 per ticket admin fee.
Did each booking involve one ticket, four tickets or eight tickets???

Four people each had two return tickets.

    That's eight tickets.

Sorry to hear about falling down steps at Crewe. I think you can only cancel and get refunds if it is done before the day of travel.

Assuming the accident was on the day you were due to travel, I suspect that you will only be able to get a refund on Durham-Manchester return portion which is valid for a month from the original date of travel.

    Thanks all

T&C's say we can claim up to 30 days after and Take The Train have just replied and said <<I can confirm there will only 1 admin charge of £10 as your booking for four was all made under the same reference>>
    which is better news :)

If the fall was on station premises you should also consider whether compensation is due, and whether that is a route you wish to explore.

Elderly lady stumbles on stairs when she could have taken the lift.

Not an option we would consider thanks.

Good for you! Too many people seem to want compensation for accidents that are nobody's fault.

I am glad that you have indeed considered this and come to that conclusion.

I do suggest that you put these thoughts in a letter to the TOC that operates the station: giving you a full refund without deduction of the fees would be a good customer service gesture.

I don't follow the logic here.
She fell and no-one was to blame (sorry to hear that BTW), but there are costs involved and staff to pay, so why should this be free just because they decide not to take advantage (they would have to prove fault to win).

I do feel sorry for the person that fell, but this still sounds like trying to take advantage to me.

This is going off topic ... :D

The 'British Rail' staff were very helpful and had called an ambulance before our party had even managed to gather their thoughts.

80+ yr old 'victim' is progressing well. :)
