Temporary Travel Uplift

Hi all,
12 months ago my employer moved to a new building which added 30 miles to my daily commute. They offered to all employees that were affected by the extra mileage to pay a temporary travel uplift @ 40p for the additional miles. This was meant to last for 12 months then stop. This was very good of them in my opinion.
This months pay should have been the first month where the payment stopped but it was still paid. Now I seem to remember reading something (I hope) that if a payment like this is paid for more than 12 months then is becomes part of your basic pay? Is that right?
Any info would be great.
Thanks

Hi there,
I would be careful if I were you. Speak to your finance department. There is always a high chance they will realise their error and then start deducting your pay for the money back.

I don't think so. When I was in the Civil Service, there were similar schemes for people on permanent transfer and such expenses as excess travel or housing costs were paid for 3 years or more. These payments never became part of basic pay.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
