Should my dad be paying tax?

    I'm a pensioner who receives state pension and a small private pension, and I also have a part-time job.

    From the personal allowance of 11500, HMRC deducts the whole of my state pension, and the remaining balance is set against my part-time job. I pay BR tax on my private pension, and I would guess this is what has happened with the OP's father. Once he left his part-time employment he should have notified HMRC who would have adjusted his code no to 11500 less DWP pension, leaving the adjusted figure as his tax code.

    As the OP's father is only 63 he will not be in receipt of a state pension yet.
