Where do I stand?

Can anyone help me?????
I bought a Hotpoint WD860G washer/dryer from Currys April 2006 which has broken down 3 times in 13 months. This may not sound a lot but is a major inconvenience when I have had to take 3 days holiday from work (total waste of my free time!) to let the engineer 'repair' it.
The machine has just given up the ghost whilst typing this (that's no 4!).
My question is how can I get rid of this hunk of junk as it is constantly breaking down?
The following is a letter I sent to the MD of Currys and got a phone call from a member of 'Currys Whatever Happens' team who told me I could have a replacement machine if it broke down one more time????????

Dear Sir,
I am writing with regard to a Hotpoint WD860G washer/ dryer I purchased from your Liverpool store on the 7th April 2006. Since purchasing this item it has had faults on three separate occasions which rendered it useless. The machine has an inherent fault and under the Sale of Goods Act I require a refund or a replacement of another make.
Two different engineers have visited my property to repair this machine and both told me there was a design fault with this model and it was a very common fault which has to be repaired every three to four months.
I have also researched this model on various websites and found numerous dissatisfied customers due to the unreliability of this machine. I find this totally unacceptable and a major inconvenience to me as I have to take time off work for the repairs to take place."

Would appreciate it if someone out there could give me some advice. If I had the money I would take this machine straight to the skip & buy a new one (obviously not Hotpoint) but I payed £616.90 for the machine & 5 year extended warranty, would like to get some of my money back (if that's possible)

you will get a new machine i would imagine especially having the extended warranty.
if it breaks down again, and it probably will after reading what you said in your post make sure the engineer doesnt leave your property until he has sorted out collection of your machine.
alternatively,go to the store you bought it from and tell the manager about it there with proof of your 3 breakdowns (engineers report)
if this is such a common fault i would hope a large chain like currys will have already recognised this and are prepared for this.
