Hamstring stretching question

As part of my physiotherapy exercises I am stretching my hamstrings using my stairs. Do both together and one foot alone on each foot.

I find the underneath of my left foot hurts (my good leg) gets sore when i do the left foot stretching on the bit of the foot which is resting on the edge of the stair. Tried wearing old trainers but the sole split.

Any suggestions will be welcome

    Buy some new trainers?
  • That is for stretching your calf rather than hamstring (if I have understood your post)
For hammy, stand at the foot of the stairs and put one foot on a stair so that your leg is straight out in front of you, keeping it straight, bend forward at the waist and touch your toes, hold that position for 30 seconds. Then the other leg, the more you do this it should get easier and you should be able to stretch further forward.

For calf muscle, stand facing a wall, put one foot toe touching the wall and the other about a metre back from it, keep the back leg straight and heel on the floor, lean forward until the front leg touches the wall with your knee and hold. As you do this more you should be able to do it at the foot of the stairs and your front knee will be able to go past the verticle and back heel stay on the floor.

    This exactly...

Just be aware that you need to push your hips back once you bend forward in order to stretch your hamstring.
Good side is that you will feel it immediately in the correct place so you will know you are doing it right.
