So not really a trick. Just common sense and Maths.Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place0 -
The "saving" is quickly reduced by any leisure travel on the season ticket route or where the season ticket route forms part of a journey as well as any day you need to travel twice on the same day
You also lose the benefits that go with a Greater Anglia season ticket (Gold Card) which includeYour Gold Card acts as a Railcard giving discounts on other rail journeys for yourself and others after 09.30 Monday - Friday and all day at weekends and on Bank Holidays. These include:
1/3 off Standard and First Class single and return tickets on participating train company services within the Gold Card area (see below)
Up to three additional adults aged 16 or over travelling with you each get 1/3 off as well
Up to four children aged between 5 and 15 pay just 40% of the child fare
1/3 off a London Zones 1-6 Off-Peak Day Travelcard
1/3 off Oyster Off-Peak Pay as you go single fares and Oyster Off-Peak daily price caps on National Rail, London Underground and Docklands Light Railway services in Greater London (apply at a London Underground station for the Gold Card discount to be applied to your Oyster card). This discount applies to the Gold Card holder only
and of course you pay fare increases when they come in rather than put them off for a year0 -
Is it still the case that there is no minimum fare restriction in July and August? If so, the maths may work for those two months alone.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I have not looked at the T&Cs for this, but I think the article may have interpreted the minimum fare rule incorrectly. The ticket has to cost £18 for you to get the full benefit, but you could still use it on e.g a £12.05 ticket (discounted to £12). Obviously £12 or below there is no point anyway.0

If buying 5 daily tickets AFAIK WebTIS backed sites e.g. Chiltern will add multiple tickets in a basket to a single booking collection reference number (I think 6 is the maximum). Others you will get individual refernce numbers e.g. SWR. Will save a fair bit of time at the ticket machine if they are printed in one go.0
