I know that many here on this forum have regular Buy Nothing Days, also known as NSDs. However, every year I celebrate this day with deliberate purpose, as a strong boycott of the madness of Black Friday.
My plan for today:
Breakfast in bed, leisurely, which I have prepared last night, smashed berries with chia seeds and oats, topped with yogurt.
Shopping at the allotment for greens, also picking some "scarola" (an Italian bitter salad) for an elderly italian friend. Visit that friend.
Simple lunch with my husband, planning a tinned fish on toast with salad, then fruit.
Afternoon: knitting at the library, perhaps borrow a book, then back home to potter, drink cups of tea and laze about in front of the fire until dinnertime (rice with tofu and allotment veg).
Bedtime with a hot drink and a book.
Stuff the madness, do something gentle today, step away from the buying frenzy! I know, preaching to the converts here, but I just thought I'd share my day.
Correction: dinner is leftovers from last night, quinoa and roasted veg heated on the woodstove, then cheese and oatcakes.
Can't completely avoid using energy but will seriously minimise. We do this most days anyway!

Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I agree Caterina, but it suited me to buy a few basics at our local Co-op: milk, bananas, a couple of tins. That was because it is near our local library, where I needed to drop some things in, for fund raising.
This evening I will go to a meeting to protest against its closure.0 -
Absolutely agree. :T Normal work days for us and cruising into what will be 2 more November NSDs. :money:
I did our grocery shop after work today, but only because I didn't want to do it at the weekend and I work near a supermarket and we don't live remotely near one. So we've saved on fuel and it's given me back 2 pure family days at home for Saturday and Sunday. :heart2: I usually avoid shopping at the weekends as I get frustrated by the crowds, shoppers without lists and the distinct lack of yellow stickers:rotfl:...
No late night meetings next week, so hopefully back in our lovely little routine.0 -
Had a lovely, gentle day with my husband, visited an elderly friend together and he did a little diy job for her. I reconnected with an old friend I hadn't been in touch with, we ate leftovers heated on the woodstove and boiled the kettle there too.
Very happy and relaxed day. I'm sure I'd feel different if I had been in the crazy scrum in central London! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
This media creation of Black Friday, now a whole weekend for goodness sake, sums up the dangers of over consumption as well as rampant greed.
I absolutely hate itDon't get it perfect - Get it goingBetter Than Before0 -
I too stayed away from shops, and will do as well this weekend as I dislike shopping at the best of times, and being pushed and shoved by the scrum does nothing to make me a happy bunny at all.
I will have a peaceful day doing as little as I fancy today i am making some fishcakes for lunch then its relax for the rest of the day . have my book club book to finish off and some knitting and catch up tv to watch:):)
