After 30 years of work and in today's world of stress and responsibility I expect many would like to stop.

Many don't. Including my partner. In her particular challenging field she still finds the work rewarding. Likewise within the deprtment. There's a lady who is now 72. Still works 4 days a week. Her salary ( and pension) pays for her extensive global travelling.

Life was far far harder a few decades ago. Perhaps people have actually gone soft, and full of self entitlement in recent times.

The government is addressing the issues around self employed and personal company preferential taxation from IR35 through to more recent dividend taxation and this will hopefully become more of a level playing field.

I did note the comment in the Budget document which alluded to a consultation regarding treating IR35 PSC contractors utilised by private companies, as employees. It has clearly been a success in tacking the issue in the public sector. Not before time this 'loophole' is being plugged.

The opposition receives the budget beforehand. Therefore has time to draft a response to the key points.

This has been niggling at me since I saw it a couple of days ago, so I checked it out.

They don't. Its seen as one of the most difficult speeches of the year, because it has to be responded to without preparation. They'll have people listening to the speech and sending messages / suggestions into the chamber, but they don't see it in advance.
