Widows Pension or similar

Your father was receiving £500 (every four weeks presumably), so had a little additional state pension.
In the circumstances you describe, it would appear that your mother should be able to claim a full basic state pension on your father's contributions and also his additional state pension.
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/181235/derived-inherited-entitlement.pdf describes the old state pension system (relevant to your mother) and the transition to the new which does not affect her.
It seems rather odd that when you informed the DWP of your father's death that no enquiries were made about his widow's situation.
Your mother should have her state pension letter from April this year - presumably your father's letter is among his papers.
There should be a telephone number for contact.
Did your father have an occupational/private pension? Were there widow's benefits?0 -
I think we will find the state pension letter and ring the number on it and speak to someone whi hopefully should be able to help her.0
