Direct Debit dates

I tried to do the same thing, have all my DD's to come out on, or just after, the 14th of the month as that is when i get paid. My energy company Iresa refused to, & i ended up taking them to the Ombudsman........
"I have reviewed your complaint points and agree that you were attempting to set up your direct debit for 14th of the month however as part of Iresa’s terms and conditions, you agreed to have your direct debit set up for 20th of the months. Therefore I am unable to find Iresa at fault for not being able to set the direct debit up for a different date. Please see the relevant term and condition below:
Direct debits
4.8 We will collect the Direct Debit payment in the agreed amount for each month of supply on the 20th day of the preceding month (or the following working day where the 20th is a non working day), except for in relation to the first month of supply (or part month) in which case we will collect the Direct Debit payment in the agreed amount 3 working days after the end of your cooling off period.
I cannot find any evidence that Iresa advised you before of this term and condition when you were asking it to change the direct debit date and therefore this is considered to be a shortfall in its customer service.
For the shortfalls in its service, I will ask it to issue a letter of apology and a gesture of goodwill of £50. I consider £50 to be fair and reasonable and consistent with complaints of a similar nature."0 -
Check whether the companies will take the DDs if you have already paid the bill on pay day. If they promise they won't, pay it as soon as you are paid.
We are with vodafone and my hubby is weekly paid. I have a standing order and sent them a quarter of the monthly bill each week. So long as it's paid they don't take the DD. Don't be tempted to cancel the DD as with many companies it's part of your contract. I do the same with BT and the water company.0
