Is the NRSWA ticket worth getting?

New roads and streetworks act.

Has anyone got this ticket? Is it worth getting?

I've been told with a 360 excavator ticket (cost £2500) and the NRSWA ticket (£900) there's plenty of work.

Is that true and is it worth the expenditure?

  • Hello,

Depending on your current role it may be worth undertaking these qualifications. If you are looking for work as a site labourer then it is worth doing as lots of contracting firms like to see you with them.

Other ones which are good to obtain are LANTRA (if you are looking to undertake high speed traffic management - good rates if you work nights etc). Also maybe worth getting a CSCS card as most firms like you to have these cards now.

If you let me know what sort of work you are after I can give you some more pointers. I have undertaken the supervisor NRSWA card which was a good 5 day course, lots of work for the exam but If you keep your head down and study at night its easy enough. The operatives card is slightly easier to complete. I did mine at BARHALE training in Walsall, I think it was around £700 for the week. If you are self employed speak with your accountant about claiming this off your tax bill!

    Hope this helps.

  • Not sure about NRSWA ticket as not my thing...however regards the 360,unless your experienced and just after your CPCS,id not bother.

Seems that no one wants to take on Red card 360 drivers...unless your lucky to get on muck away type jobs, which doesn't sound like what your after.

Are you looking at going on a firms books or Agency work...if latter then id ring around and see what demand there is.

As Cameron said above CSCS is needed...wont even get onsite without it now days.

I don't come on here often, hence the late reply, but what's the difference between the Streetworks ticket and LANTRA?
I thought the Streetworks meant an operative could work on the highway?
A site labourer only needs a CSCS card. They don't need streetworks. Even as a traffic marshall.

I have the CPCS Vehicle Plant Marshall and Forward Tipping Dumper (both blue cards). The Latter isn't valued and there doesn't appear to be a lot of work for it.

Obviously I have my CSCS. I just want to know if there's enough work with NRSWA or LANTRA to make it worth getting.

p.s. An old boss of mine did the NRSWA supervisor course but doesn't appear to be working in that field. I can only think there wasn't enough work for him so he went back to groundworking.

How has it been for you?
