How much do you pay for your frozen veg?

I keep meaning to do a price book thing but I am not disciplined enough and hate having receipts all over the place so in the bin they go before I write anything down!:o
I tend to just buy my veg where I am shopping at the time, usually that is Sainsburys or M&S but I have been trying to shop more at Aldi. I don't really do a 'big' shop anymore, my flatmates tend to do that and I top up at M&S and they top up at Lidl or the corner shop!
So if possible, please can you say what you buy, the weight of the product and how much it is.
The last time I bought some mixed veg from Sainsburys for £1.08 for a kilogram, it had peas, carrots, cauliflower and broccoli in it. I cooked it and it was delicious.

Hi ti1980,
If you have a look at Martin's article on Supermarket Shopping, Halve your weekly bill by beating the system there are links on there that should help you find where to buy the cheapest frozen veg.
This is a good thread for the Shop but don't drop board so I'll move it across for you.

Hi Pink, I did the Price checker and Sainsburys came out 2nd cheapest. I was looking more for Lidl/Aldi comparisons with Sainsburys/M&S and I couldn't find what I was looking for on those links.
I've already looked at the threads mentioned in the article and weights of products aren't usually put on by people which is one of the reasons why I posted my thread.
Thanks anyway.0 -
I have just switched from fresh broccoli to frozen because it is half the price and also supposedly fresher, this is in Tescos where a bag is 94p for a kilo (I think). We steam veg and this takes a little less time than fresh.
However I have had a couple of packets where there was brown on the broccoli, I assume mud, so have thrown these particular florets away. Carrots I don't like frozen and are usually fairly cheap fresh.
I always buy own brand petit pois, I really doubt whether branded is worth the extra.
It would be interesting to hear about iceland and lidl or aldi veg though.0 -
Thanks for your input Clowance, much appreciated. I'm not a big fan of peas but the pack I bought did have peas in it and it was lovely but it also had broccoli, cauliflower and carrots in it. I did almost half a pack for 3 people and we still could have had more.
The mixed veg we get from Aldi does tend to have stalky bits on which the Sainsburys veg didn't.
M&S sometimes do veg on a 2 packs for £2 which makes it cheaper than Sainsburys for 2 packs (£1.08 for a pack so £2.16 for 2) and I work there so I get discount which brings the price down to £1.60 for 2 packs.
The price comparison websites don't tend to include M&S, Aldi or Lidl which is where we are most likely to do our shopping so they are not that useful to me.0 -
Just to say for all the lazy cooks out there, e.g. uni students wanting to make quick meals. adding mixed frozen veg is a really easy way to help with your '5 a day'. For example if you are cooking rice or pasta, just through a handful of mixed veg in. Sorry to go off topic! haha0

SOrry, I can;t help with exact prices, but Lidl are very cheap when their fresh fruit and veg is on half price, which seems to be quite often. The qualtiy of some isn;t the best, but we also have a great big frezzer stuffed full of frozen veG.
I avoid thoise expensive 'steam in the bag' veg mini packs too. They are expensive and pointless... not enough veg in them and I have a steamer to cook my own 'specially selected' veg in! I don;t see what's wrong with the basics ranges - Asda's smartprice sweetcorn, peas, cauliflowqer is great.Homer: I want to share something with you, Bart: The three little sentences that will get you through life. Number 1: Cover for me. Number 2: Oh, good idea, Boss! Number 3: It was like that when I got here.0 -
I just started a price book (but havent written down the bag sizes - sorry!)
Tesco so far cheapest for frozen sweetcorn at 90p a bag & Lidl cheapest for frozen peas at 87p a bag.
Don't buy any other frozen veg so can't help there Im afraid!Piggypoints - 207+£10 * Quidco - £95 * Tesco - 1095 * Sainsbugs - 4237I SHALL be debt free!!!!!:D

just wanted to say we prefer Icelands veg,
most of it is £1 per bag, not sure on the sizes though
and i dont usually like frozen carrots but their baby carrots are lovely in a casserole etc.
they do frozen mixed peppers, onions, mushrooms etc, as well
and slightly off topic they do potatoe slices in a black box, not sure of the make, with a cheese sauce with mustard seeds, they are really yummy and icelands sell for £1 , tesco sell exactly the same make £1.89
I'm trying to be a good moneysaver
but I keep reading the bargains on the grabbit board !:rotfl:

Something I find odd is that in Iceland garden peas and petit pois are the same price when usually petit pois command a premium.0 -
1kg Brocolli - Netto 74p
1kg Button Sproats - Lidl 62p
907g Peas - Asda 52p
