Help needed

Can someone help me I have got a letter this morning which is completely baffling

It is from a solictor claiming I owe nearly £400 from a credit card taken out in 2002 .. They say the debt is owed by a company called ME111 .... Who apparently purchase the debt in 2006 ... I have never heard of this company and they are saying I last made a payment in 2013 which can't be true

I have a requested a statement and a signed copy of the agreement ... The solicitors have said they are under no obligation to give a signed copy of the agreement .. Surely this is wrong.

They have given me details of this ME 111 company incl phone number but the number rings several time then cuts off

Any advice what I can do as I smell a big fat rat

    Ah, Restons..........

They are been pedantic, trying to fob you off, they are correct in that they don't need to provide a "signed" copy of your agreement, the consumer credit act does not specify a copy agreement has to have a signature.

However, they are obliged to provide an unsigned copy on request, they are just trying to be clever, hoping you will buy it, and give up.

You should send them a copy of this letter, it asks them formally to prove your liability for the debt or to go away, its carefully worded so as not to acknowledge the debt, so wont count as acknowledgement in respect of it possibly been statute barred :
