Help! Demand From Moriarty law

  • Btw, the address where Moriarty Law is allegedly registered at is "15 Old Bailey" which could make people think they may be receiving letters from someone related to the criminal court of justices (Old Baileys), but in fact the address "15 Old Bailey" is available to anyone as a served virtual office. This is not in any way illegal, but adds a lot to the stinkiness of the situation.
  • Ok, I found something interesting. I have checked my previous tenancy agreement that was from 2012 till the end of 2013, which does mention the following:
"The tenant agrees that all accounts for gas and electricity will be transferred to the tenants name for the duration of the tenancy and that where the property is not currently supplied by Spark Energy, the agent or Landlord is authorised to request that Spark Energy Ltd take over and supply and set up accounts in the tenant's name; if the tenant wishes to use a different supplier they must make their own arrangements."
Honestly, up until today I haven't even realised I had this paragraph in my tenancy offer sheet. During that tenancy I was using Southern Electric for both gas and electricity, and I don't even remember switching, the address was already registered with SSE. Now I have logged into my SSE accounts, and they show £0 balance for both gas and electricity. Also I received my deposit back in full from the agency at the end of the tenancy, which also proves I wasn't owing a penny.

I hear what you are saying, but the advice still stands to send the provit letter, if you don't, and just ignore it, then they could apply for a CCJ and if you don't defend that, it would be granted by default.

It would then be costly for you to deal with at that stage, whilst at the moment, it can be put to bed for the cost of a stamp.

  • I am definitely going to ask for proof. I am just writing down my findings because I may not be the only person facing these issues, others may be interested in it too. I don't think it's pointless even if I know already what to do. And thanks again for the link.
  • Hi There,
Thanks for all your input everyone.
It looks like a former tenant of a property I rent out kept my name on the energy bills and ran up a huge bill -
(although 3600 in 18 months seems bonkers - how is this possible!? It's only electricity, not elec and gas.)
Called spark and they were actually helpful - they have said If I get the letting agent to contact them confirming tenancy dates then they will recalculate the bill with my true liability.
