Eco Egg washing alternative

Hi
I was wondering if anyone has any experience of using the Eco egg for washing and if works just as well as powder/liquid?

I'm looking to save a bit more and also something a little more Eco friendly. I would probably only use it for clothes and stick to bio for towels and bedding.
All opinions greatly appreciated!

  • I use soap nuts for all my laundry, they last for ages and go in the compost bin when finished with. I started using them after a friend gave me some to try: she has a baby, three year old and nine year old boys and a husband who works on a building site and their clothes look clean so I thought they would be fine for us, and they are. I like the fact that they don't smell, but you can always use a bit of essential oil if you want a fragrance.
  • I've tried the eco egg and soapnuts but didn't really like either.I felt they weren't very good at removing stains or really getting things clean, so went back to powder and liquids. Also I thought they smelled horrible and needed essential oil in the rinse water. I only liked citronella oil which my husband didn't like so that was the end of that. They're still under my sink and get used from time to time if I've run out of powder/liquid/money until payday but I add fabric softener.

They're good for cleaning non-soiled items, but useless for getting food, mud etc out of clothes.

Perhaps I'll give them a miss then, I use to use soap nuts for my sons nappies when he was in cloth, I'd forgotten about them.

Thanks for all your replies x
