The nil rate band and primary residents nil rate band mean that we should be able to leave our children £1M tax free, and lifetime PET gifts to get them on the property ladder means they will receive a good deal more than that tax free, they really have little to complain about that anything left over that is going to be subject to tax.
I think that posters who complain most vehemently about IHT would prefer to live in "the land of the free" where "government IS the problem" but, in fact, there are not only inheritance taxes but wealth taxes in addition plus having to pay for medical insurance. But, heh-ho I've got free money coming and someone else should pay for society.

And those who don't lift a finger to earn money tend to get everything paid for them, including care which also isn't fair. Life isn't fair, but that is how it is.

I would love to know how people currently earning minimum wage are ever going to save enough to pay for stuff like that. My mother is currently in care mainly funded by the LA, and like many others in that situation she was of a generation where women stoped working to bring up children. Even many people own expensive homes are still funded by the LA because their spouse is still living there.

Having had recent dealings with the care system, and wanting some choice about where I end up if I ever need care, I am more than happy that I am in a position to pay for it, there is no way on Earth that I am going to be subject to limited choice of LA funding and all the hoops that have to be jumped through to get it.
