I find it hard to believe that eliminating a tablet altogether would not leave your plates and glasses with a greasy smear on them.
I’ve occasionally forgotten tomout any laundry liquid in my washing machine and the clothes have come out clean enough but clothes generally don,t accumulate the same amount of grease as cutlery and plates.0 -
2 cups of Bi-carb 1/2 cup of citric acid and 1/2 cup of sea salt, mixed together, 2 tbls per load.
Everything available in cardboard boxes from wilko.0 -
You can apparently use soapnuts in a dishwasher. I haven't got one so I haven't tried it but it's got to be worth a go!

I just did my first wash without a tablet. It's all come out fine apart from a couple of dishes that I should have soaked.0

Do you rinse all the worst debris off yiurnolates first before putting them in the dishwasher. I’m concerned about hiw effective hot water alone is in removing grease from dishes and other items.0 -
I've whacked mine on with a drop of lemon washing up liquid. Let's hope it doesn't blow up in protest...
ETA: Just checked, 60 mins into cycle (20/30 or so to go, I think) and it's fine and smells fresh...however I've just looked it up and you're definitely NOT supposed to do it!0 -
I absent-mindedly put a limescale-removing tablet (cheap version of Calgon) in mine instead of a dishwasher tablet.
It seemed to work just as well:D0 -
Plates scraped not rinsed. Used the eco cycle. Came out really clean. It was an experiment, but a successful one.0

I once tried a little squirt of Stardrops. The foam leaked out of the bottom of the door. So not recommended...The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

Please and Thank You are the magic words;)0 -
Thanks OP, once this box is finished I'm quitting tabs. The tiny squirt of washing up liquid worked fine. I'll just continue to buy salt and vinegar (which I buy anyway). Yay for less plastic...and less £££!0
