Basic checks

Hi
A friend is waiting confirmation of a job offer. Has previously held down a steady job with same firm for around 15 years. Had been informed will need to supply proof of ID, financial info and residency status. Anyone know how long these checks will take & how you submit the requested information . WhT kind of things do they ask?

  • What do you mean? Employers have to be sure employees have the right to work in the UK. They won't ask for financial info other than what bank to pay his wages into.
If he's a UK or EU citizen, he just needs to give his passport. Have they asked for anything else?
    Debt 1/1/17 - Credit Cards £17,280.23; overdrafts £3,777.24
    Debt 5/1/18 - Credit Cards £3,188; overdrafts £0
  • The job is an administration role civil service. He’s never been in debt or any trouble and is a uk citizen . He’s being made redundant. So can’t afford to lose this job. What I mean is how long do these clearances take as he was advised it was just a basic clearance check.
  • About 10 days. Could be longer.

For the DBS check I remember uploading ID and at last two current utililities bills to a checking website as directed by the employer, the last time I would have gone through anything like this.

I know once when I had a council temp job (which didn't need a DBS apparently...) the start date was brought forward by a week. Which really messed up the employed people who were waiting to start.

So I wouldn't like to guarantee anything.

Why not ask the employer for absolute clarity.
  • That’s helpful. By upload do you mean scan the document and then upload as an attachment? Can you upload using an iPad?
They said to him they will contact him once they have the other paperwork in order so didn’t want to hassle them so soon. Thank you for this information

Can your friend post on here directly? I don't think you're the right person to be advising them given the naïve questions.
  • my friend doesn’t use the internet at all.
