Ideas needed for 12 year old girl

Options
This Christmas, for the first time ever, I'm stumped what to get DD for Christmas. She is 13 next year and we have decided on that present as it marks a biggish birthday for her. Christmas however has left me stumped. We had agreed that the flute we have just bought for her is an early Christmas present as it's expensive but I have to surprise her with something big on Christmas day.

She is a girly girl. We could open a hairdressers between us with dryers, curlers, straigteners etc. She has a DS lite, a very underused PS2, a much loved moblie phone/MP3 player.

I've already bought bits and pieces for her like PJ's, dressing gown, DVDs, make-up, jewellery etc.

Clothes are a no-no as I always pick up the naff thing in the shop according to her:rolleyes: .

  • When the kids get older the things they like to receive get smaller and more expensive.
I still like to make a big impressive display of gifts, which is easy for the little one, everything seems to come in big boxes anyway. But for my older child I bulk up the small expensive gifts with things like a ready framed print or poster for the bedroom,a big bunch of inflated balloons with money slipped into each one before you blow it up(along with a voucher for a day out shopping with mum including lunch at the place of their choosing),a lifesize cut out of their hearthrob movie or pop star,a giant teddy always goes down well with girls.
So basically the older they get the more I go for small and expensive things like jewellery and electronics bulked up with big and cheap novelties.

What about concert tickets,at 12 she is likely to be madly in love with some pop star and would love going to a concert.

  • I would go for an "experience" rather than a "thing" though I understand the size of the gifta on display wont be so good!

You could book a makeover say at the bodyshop or even one of the expensive make up places eg clinique- a lovely way to help her get a feel for the way she likes her make up- these things may well be free and a voucher for make up of her choice after would be good.

Do you have tesco clubcard points waiting to be spent? You could do a day out package with tickets for her and a couple of mates at a theme park for no dosh at all! (think I'll do this for my 14yr old).

TBH if she has had a flute and has a big birthday coming up a stocking of little silly bits/CD etc would be what would happen here, what about a "mums bank music voucher" too- we spend an awful lot on music here "My teacher says I need this by next week" sort of thing, and a vouvher like that would perhaps help her understand that there is this constant flow of cash spent on her all year (not that I begrudge it a bit, but I like heer to realise the money is going!).

    What about a day out?

DD loves those!! A small gift as well, but definitely a day out.

Thanks for all the ideas. Perhaps I wasn't very clear in that I'm not looking for a big thing as in physically big but big as in giving the wow.

If she likes to lounge in her room watching TV with her friends, then this might be an idea...
