Compression Stockings on Prescription

I wear compression stockings for my varicose veins and until recently used to get them on prescription. Lat week I was told by my doctor they are no longer available on prescription yet all the information I can find seems to contradict this.
Before I go back to my GP I would like to know if anyone can point me towards some definitive information please as they are really expensive to buy.

It is likely to be a CCG funding decision. The NHS cannot afford to fund non essentials any longer.
Check with PALS if this is their new policy. If it is, then get on to your MP about the cuts the government continue to make.0 -
There were similar cuts some years ago, when areas chose not to fund lancets and test strips for people who have diabetes, but don't take medication for the condition.0

There's a whole list of treatments and medications being circulated which the NHS no longer plans to prescribe.0

Is it that they no longer fund them at all or are they just not finding the lower classes of compression?0
