Me and my partner are planning on going away to Edinburgh and the prices for trains and planes are quite high. We were wondering if anyone has any discount codes for any train or plane companies? Or if you know any companies that are particularly cheaper? We appreciate any help you can give us,
Thankyou!
Thankyou!

Not an expert on planes, but with trains you need to book early - bookings open 12 wks before the date you want to travel. Most train companies will have a limited number of seats at very cheap prices - but you'll need to be flexible about when you travel and be willing to pick a particular train to travel on.
As an example, my DH and I travelled to York last year with GNER for 9.50 each way (from Stevenage). Much cheaper than driving!
You can sign up with GNER for their email newsletter which I think also alerts you to when the next set of bookings open.
I think all of this just might apply to planes too, but I know a lot more about trains!
Hope this helps0 -
Buy a family rail card for £20( lasts a year), then buy 2 x adults and 1 child and you will get the tickets for less than half the price of what you would pay for just the adults, just get them a couple of weeks in advance. don't do it online, go into the train station and get them to search for the cheapest possible tickets.
i go to scotland by train at least 3 times a year and if i didn't have a family rail card it would cost me in excess of £110 for my daughter and I from where i live to my mums, with this card and getting tickets in advance i only pay £27.20, keighley- leeds, leeds- edinburgh, edinburgh to bathgate and back again. £10.10 each way for me and £3.50 each way for my daughter. you don't actually have to take a child with you, you just need to pay for a childs seat.0 -
Have you tried mega bus/train.0

hi - you dont say where you are - but I know the Journal newspaper in Newcastle was doing token collects a few weeks back for a £15 return from London to Edinburgh ...far cheaper travelling up that side of the country than our side (Carlisle) .... try splitting the journey too or even look at getting singles (daughter does this travelling from Newcastle and often travels first class one way for a cheaper price than the standard normal 2nd class rate)...know she uses the GNER web site as well as "thetrainline.com" for a comparison0 -
I'm actually booking a trip to Edinburgh myself - trolling MSE for discounts on hotels!!!;)
We're booking our travel (from Leicestershire) via BMI - £53 rtn flights incl all taxes etc. I think that's a fair price.
Good luck and have a fab time!!!0 -
