Not service
Hi
I bought my car from a relative about 4 years ago and he bought it new in 2009. He has been serviced it every year.
But when I bought it over, I have not been bothering with the service.....I don't plan to sell it on, just drive it until it won't or cost too much to repair.
I know I should service it once a year, and in the long run, it will be cheaper overall. But in the 4 years I had it nothing really happen, just the general brake disc, lighting, wiper.
I know most people will say I'm wrong.
So just want people opinion on not servicing and if there is any pro.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Why did you bother fixing the brakes & lights ? It's far cheaper to just leave them when they wear out. They'll be fine, brakes are a much over-rated accessory in my opinion.
Come on, this has to be a wind up, surely ?0 -
I sold my old Clio to a friend back in 2002 (it was 2 years old at the time), she ran it for 11 years with only 1 service. I have no idea how it managed to go that long but it did.Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0

Depends a lot on your annual mileage.ANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.0

Obviously I need the car to pass mot hence the fix.
And I will pay and fix any advisory item. But I find Servicing is a way of us paying money for nothing
Unlike mot is mandatory.
Total is 65k mileages. Was 8k but now I moved job it's more like 4k annually0 -
And little things like turbos, they love dirty oil. Makes them literally squeal with delight.0

Friends girlfriend doesn't believe in services. Had a Yaris that was sounding pretty rough for a diesel, turned out to be a petrol. Ended up killing it a few years earlier than it should have been, and had a lot of issues.
If you want to get longer out of it, just service it. It should save you money in the long run.0 -
I just love to be sharing the roads with people who don't service their cars, and leave everything else for the MOT, which is, after all's said and done a mostly visual inspection.
I mean what could go wrong? :eek:0 -

So you do lot's of small journeys which is really bad for cars?
I spose as long as you get the oil changed you could get away with fixing things when you notice. I would be changing it twice a year with a 4K milage though.0 -
Giving the benefit of the doubt that this isn't a wind up.......
A service can include quite a few different things but generally will be a change of engine oil along with the oil filter plus other bits depending on mileage or age.
By not changing the oil and filter your engine will wear out as it's not being lubricated properly, when this happens your car will be junk.
If you are slightly DIY savvy basic servicing is easy. The last service I did included oil and oil filter, air filter, spark plugs and fuel filter, took a couple of hours and cost £50 in parts.
National autocentres do an oil and filter change from about £30 depending on the car. Really no reason not to do this annually.0 -
An 8 year old car at 65k is worth servicing. You're risking early engine wear which will scrap the car and increased fuel use from old filters and a higher likelihood of breakdown.
With lower annual mileage on a depreciating, low value car I would stretch the service interval but not simply wait for the car to fail.0
