From a legal point of view they have done nothing wrong - The weekend deals are limited quantity and if they have run our then it is unfortunate but the way it goes sometimes. It will be the same next week with the Black Friday deals in the big stores - they will only have a handful of the big deals.

It can be risky for the retailer however - if you have a bad experience as a customer you have the right to take your custom elsewhere. They are just banking on customer inertia.

In ours there was a notice up at the entrance and above where the cheese would be saying that there would not be any cheese in our store and that instead they had a 830g extra mature cheddar at 46% off (£2.19 I think!). Pity as the extra mature makes my gums swell! Then I noticed they had a very small amount of the old labelled stock and cleared out the whole 3 that were on the shelf!

The labels have recently changed on all the cheeses so I asked a member of staff about it. They said that the new supplier had let them down but were pleasantly surprised that an alternative had been offered as that doesn't happen often.
