OS ms - easy crafting?

Hi Everybody

I would love to start up a hobby, like cross-stitch / tapestry (something where there is an end product that I can be proud of!)

The only problem is I have never done it before and don't know where to start. I don't want to spend lots of money on something that I can't do - so any suggestions would greatly appreciated.

I am currently giving up smoking and thought something like this would keep my hands busy in times of stress!

By a small cross stitch package - one with the pattern and threads etc all included and just give it a go from somewhere like Hobbycraft. Highly addictive once you've finished one!

the library will have books on different crafts. Charity shops often have wool, thread, needles etc and sometimes childrens craft kits which are very useful for learning with.

For a lot of my card craft i go to the pound shop. or ebay sometimes have some last minute bargains. or maybe have a look round car boot sales / charity shop for strter kits before you commit to spending loads
  • THe crafting magazines usually have free (small) kits. Its a nice way to try a few different sorts of projects before you commit. WHSmiths or Hobbycraft both have realy good selections. At this time of year you can make a start of your christmas cards!

You can also buy small kits of embroidered 'christmas decorations' either for hanging on a tree or for hanging around a mantlepiece.

.......... but have to echo SkintCatt - you will find it highly addictive - as my collection of embroidery/cross stitch books will testify!

I agree with shoequeen about the magazines. There are some lovely little cross stitch kits free with them. If you don't fancy that, I would suggest going into Hobbycraft and finding a kit you like, then come home and buy it on Ebay instead, and save yourself loads of cash. :)

I started cross stitching when I gave up smoking, and it did help !
