LOWELL PORTFOLIO 1 please help!!!

I logged into my credit score dashboard today to see that it's had gone down significantly. On my report it said these were the following negative factors.
•You opened your LOWELL PORTFOLIO 1 LTD (I)
Your LOWELL PORTFOLIO 1 LTD (I) account went into default
•You closed or settled your LOWELL PORTFOLIO 1 LTD (I) account
I have never dealt with this company before and the only thing that defaulted was a phone contract from 3/4 years ago with EE. Can anybody give me any info or dealing anybody has had with them? I understand the default part however why would it say it had also been closed or settled?!
I have googled the company and people said not to deal with them and that they have chased debt as far back as 20 years for some people, as well as using threatening actions etc.
Any help would appreciated, thanks in advance!!!

Lowell probably bought your EE account.
It sounds like you paid it off at some point.
Unless you need a clean credit report, this isn't likely to cause any problems. What default date was quoted? You'll need a proper credit report.0 -
At the moment I am using clear score, I get the debt might still be there but I'm just confused that it is saying it has been opened and also closed/settled and my score has dropped dramatically0

Your score is a made up number.
Only the history matters0 -

Lowell buy up old debts, you need to be sure of your facts here, if you haven’t dealt with Lowell before then the debt will still be outstanding, unless it’s been sold on in error.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Or sold on intentionally of course.
There is also the possibility that they have deemed it not worth recovering and settled it internally.
And if could be an error.
Not dealing with a DCA can be just as dangerous as dealing with them, because they can, and will get a CCJ against you if you just bin all the post they send you without looking.
What you do now is up to you. If you want your credit files sorted, and want to run the risk of Lowell asking money from you, get in contact (Writing only, using the post, nothing phone/electronic here!) saying these entries in your credit files are in error and you want them expunged.
If you don't want to run that risk, do not contact Lowell unless if they send you a letter asking you for money. If they do, come back here and we can advise accordingly.
