Buying in France - mortage etc...

I wonder if anyone can help.

My boyfriend and I are planning to buy a place in the south of France some time soon. To explain the situation, I'm english and my boyfriend is french and we are renting at the moment in the south of france.

We need to borrow about 80% of the total price for our next appartment and have no idea where to start. We approached a couple of french banks but they would not accept me as i'm paid into an english bank account and do not work in France!

Please note we have no other property at the moment only the appartment that we rent.

We tried to work it on just my boyfriends wages but the bank would not loan him as much as we need...Neither of us has any debt also!
If anyone has any ideas of ways to start the process, I would be very grateful!

    I've done a few of these and always used Barclays. You are better off using them directly and there is a bit more info further on down this page.....

    You are best talking to a french mortgage broker as a rule of thumb french banks lend on your ability to repay not on the property , your total monthly out goings including the french mortgage + english mortgage + any uk secured loans must not exceed 33% percent of your monthly income . So unless you have a high income or no uk mortgage or loans the amount they will lend is limited .

    I recently arranged a mortgage for an appartment we have bought in the South of France, and like you struggled to know where to start. Eventually I found this company, based in England who arranged it for me. They deal via the phone and web only but they were very good

    Barclays in Paris have been excellent, I recently introduced a UK client to them (buying a French holiday home), all very helpful, both on phone and email and with some very reasonable rates. They won't however normally go to 80%, nearer 70% I think.
