Thanks L & SH, the crumble was good and added oats are an excellent idea SH!  Posh custard L? I'll save some crumble!!

I have just sat down with a nice cup of tea to have a read through some diaries, the kitchen is all clean, dishwasher is running and the candles are lit.  I love it when it's all clean and tidy in an evening.  We have treated ourselves to a takeaway curry tonight which was excellent.  We didn't eat out in the end last night, just enjoyed a few drinks with good friends and live music before heading home for cheese on toast and aforementioned crumble with custard.  The curry treat worked out at half the price of a meal out and there is lots of leftovers for tomorrow so win win, it was probably nicer than the food in the pub also to be honest.

Today started badly after a TERRIBLE nights sleep for some reason.  I was awake for hours during the night then fell asleep only an hour before my alarm which is a nightmare.  I found it very difficult to drag my self out of bed but I had no choice as I was opening up the shop.  I worked a couple of hours with some help from DH then came home for a quick breakfast of bacon sandwiches (bacon cooked yesterday morning) then we were off to DH's work for a couple of hours to help get him ready for a busy week.  Lunch was the noodle salad I mentioned yesterday alongside some spicy prawn skewers I found in the freezer, it was yummy and my fridge is clearer now.  I must confess I then went to bed for a couple of hours to catch up on some sleep and woke feeling much brighter.

    This afternoon I have:

Given my greenhouse some TLC, butchering my jungle of tomato plants in the hope I'll have some ripening soon, I did spot a couple starting to turn and have popped an old banana in there to encourage them further.  Next year I will sow them earlier!

Deadheaded and watered all the pots and hanging baskets.

    Folded dry washing from yesterday.

Got DH's lunch ready (HM soup) and his flask is out waiting to be filled.

Played with the dogs for half an hour in the garden.

    Cleaned the kitchen

Finally, I have collected up, washed, dried and replaced all the sofa throws and scatter cushion covers ready for winter.  I was chatting to DH over dinner about my winter nesting urges and how I seem to be in the minority in RL with my preps, aside perhaps from my Mum who does get v. excited over a full winter wood store  .  DH suggested it could be my farming blood but I also think it has a lot to do with MSE as there seem to be lots of likeminded people on here.  This time of year also seems to be when I'm best at keeping up with my diary for some, most likely related, reason.

Now I'm relaxing before an early night, I'm in work at 7.30am so want to be up early to sort out the animals and run the hoover round before I leave.

A busy Tuesday today - although it's been Monday in my head all day!

Up early for work, dogs let out and fed. Quick tidy of bedroom and kitchen then off to the shop.  Got lots of niggly jobs done at work that have been building up over the summer so that felt good to get everything sorted.  Home at lunchtime to more of the salad I made yesterday, I was grateful for a quick lunch.  I then dug some potatoes and picked some runner beans before popping up to my Mum's to deliver those veggies and some firewood that we brought home from DH's work yesterday.  Sadly Mum wasn't in and I later realised they're at an agricultural show but she will appreciate them no doubt when she finds them on her doorstep.

The weather has been unexpectedly mostly sunny and dry today so I got another load of washing out and its almost dry, unfortunately I've missed the nice weather as I've been working inside on my laptop.  I might catch an hour of sunshine now before dinner.

I've just raided the freezer and found some spag bol which will do DH and I for dinner, quick and easy.  Kids will have leftover curry and rice from last night, lucky things!

I need to be organised again tonight as another early start tomorrow, I'm at my work and also helping DH in the afternoon, no rest for the wicked!

  • Ahh Friday at last!

Typed out a long post a couple of hours ago then lost it all so I'll just add a few highlights instead of re-writing the whole thing.

DH on a golf day so house to myself means getting lots of jobs done when he's out from under my feet!

Bed stripped, washed and hung out to dry

VAT return started, a little job to begin then I thought "I may aswell do..." so quite a big chunk ticked off which is great

Invoices paid and orders placed for next week

OP made to business loan following regular payment going out, rounded down to £43500 - on track to pay off in 18 months all being well.

A yummy breakfast wrap earlier with bacon, egg and hashbrown (naughty!) and I've just had a late lunch bowl of peanut noodle salad, I've been addicted to that this week and it keeps so well in the fridge!  Some sort of prawns for tea I think as DH not here and he doesn't do fish or seafood.

I've tidied up my desk in the office and I'm now using it - much better to work from as I have a view of the lane past our house which is always busy with people wandering past and I can be nosy!!  Its lovely and light too with the desk in front of a large window.

Had a wander round the garden with a coffee, tomatoes starting to ripen properly now (finally!) and I must get out and dig the potatoes up whilst the weather is good.

Had a great result trying to rescue a nice pale blue and white striped linen shirt that had a nasty yellow sun cream stain on the shoulder.  Stain remover hadn't worked until I tried soaking it in vanish then leaving in the sun.  Kept repeating this a few times a day and finally, after about 4 days left outside, the stain has all but gone.  There is a tiny bit of discolouration on the stitching but you wouldn't notice at all so I'm really pleased with that.  I've also left a few old cushion covers in the sun to try to brighten them and that has worked really well too.

Jobs still remaining for today include re-making the bed, delivering groceries to customers and nipping to the post office to try to sort out some paypoint vouchers that I need to cash in.  I also need to walk the dogs and have a hoover round the family room.

Glad the sun helped - I've done that a few times in the past.
