I take it that you thought it wasn't worth joining a Trade Union?I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0
-
I was always against them because all I knew/heard of them at work was causing a nuisance when it came to pay talks - I joined shortly after the accident and they've put me in touch with a solicitors. They won't charge me and I keep 100% of the compensation so hopefully the full £1,000 (ish) - Just wondering if I will get my lost income.0

You joined after the accident - so the union won't be paying the bill for you, you know! Anything ongoing at the time you join is excluded.
There is a difference between having an accident at work and the employer being responsible for the accident at work. What makes you think you will get anything?
I'd advise starting to look for another job now - it won't be long before your employer starts looking for another employee! The time you have left depends on whether you have two years employment or not - if you do you may last a few weeks longer whilst they find a "fair" reason to sack you. Less than two years and it will be about five minutes after you tell them you are intending to sue them.0 -

I told them the accident happened 'after' I joined the union and they said it was fine - I don't think the union are paying the fess, the solicitor is only taking legal costs and nothing extra. I think anyway.
I also 100% believe the accident is not my fault - I was on a designated foot path and was hit by a forklift truck - I would never make a fuss but not once has anyone said 'Oh, sorry for what's happened'.
It's a huge company car manufacturing company and obvs don't want to lose my job and hopefully having joined the union should be safe - agency staff come and go by the day at my place! Been there 3-4 years so should be good??0 -

So you lied - good luck when they find out :rotfl:It's a huge company car manufacturing company and obvs don't want to lose my job and hopefully having joined the union should be safe - agency staff come and go by the day at my place! Been there 3-4 years so should be good??
And now you've narrowed down the industry/employer you've made them find out even more likely :rotfl:
Whether it was your fault or not your lying about it is only likely to go one way - take Sangies advice above and start looking for another job sharpish0 -
No I didn’t lie sorry if it seemed I was saying I did! I told them the accident occurred well before I joined them and told them I only joined because of the accident after advice from other people I work with!
I even told them the dates if the accident before they passed me into a solicitor. Sorry again just not good with words!0 -

If you were on a designated walkway and were hit by a forklift, you may well have grounds to claim.
There should at least be an investigation, particularly if it is a large firm as you say - their health & safety procedures should be belt and braces!
I am not saying ignore the advice given here, but take it with a pinch of salt. You only have to read a small selection of the threads here to see that there is a very small number of posters who seem to like the idea that they rule this section and the only advice is basically "employers can do what they like, if you don't like it, find another job", or "join a union or you have no chance".
These people are out of touch IMO - the workplace has changed a lot in recent years and employees have far more rights, particularly if they are hurt at work.0 -

It was reported immediately and investigated although I was not told of any outcome. Health and safety is top notch to be fair, blokes employed purely to avoid accidents, it was just a driver not paying attention in my opinion in my case.
I wasn't all that bothered about it at first and just put it down '!!!! happens' and was more bothered about the other bloke losing his job for then I needed time off work and started losing money and think it's massively unfair.0
