Cancelling hire purchase and return faulty vehicle

Hi its my first post here after abit of advice.

I purchased a vauxhall corsa vxr from a dealer via a hire purchase company in june 2017 the day after i took it for a full service costing me £420 2 weeks later the clutch went i took it to a garage and paid £439 for a new clutch 2 weeks later the water pipe burst and turbo blown at this stage i had enough of the car and it has been sat on my drive i have done just over 200 miles since purchase i have put a complaint in to reject the car as its faulty having only done 200 miles they basically have accepted my claim and they have 28 days to decide an outcome what i want to know is should i be entitled to all my money back under the agreement ? Plus the service i paid for and the new clutch i paid for? Just like some advice on this as i dont want the finance company fobbing me off thanks.

What age and mileage when you bought it? I personally would have insisted that if a service was due at purchase that the garage would have to perform it before it was bought. A clutch is a wear and tear item and isn't usually covered by any warranty and depending on the age/mileage might be quite normal.

    1. The dealer should have serviced the car prior purchase, not after at your cost 24 hours later...

    2. The moment the clutch went (2 weeks after purchase?) you should've complained to the finance company and dealer. By repairing the car yourself you would struggle to win a complaint when you've already fixed it.

    3. You still have a chance to follow through a complaint on the turbo. But in terms of your chance getting money back you paid to service/repair it: little to none.

Hint for next time: stop fixing stuff at your own cost then try complain after, it rarely works! Especially with car finance.
  • If the clutch was replaced by the same dealer I can't see it being an issue.

Assuming this is a used vehicle, a cultists wear and tear so as long as the work was carried out by a professional, it shouldn't invalidate the warranty...

Boy racer car, no one can say how this car has been driven.

They do tend to get abused somewhat so wear and tear is above average on this type of car.

The problem is even though they are looking into it at this stage they don't have to accept a rejection. They could off a remedy but that might just mean making sure there is nothing inherent wrong with the car.
  • The age is 2011 and mileage 43800 miles when purchased currently on 44000. There was a 3 month warranty when i got the vehicle i rang the garage when the clutch went 2 weeks later amd they wasnt interested so i paid for it myself the car was advertised as full service history the last time it had a service was 2015, stupid me for not checking the service book untill after i just took there word for it. Im hoping i at least get the payments i have made under the agreement. So theres no chance they would pay out for the service and clutch they have asked me send receipts in for the service amd clutch so just wondering why they want to see them if they arnt going pay out for them.

Likely just proof the fault exists/existed and what you have paid for it. If there isn't any grounds to reject the vehicle, they may just give you a goodwill gesture towards the costs you've paid.

WHAT??? 420 for a "full" service? (probably just oil change and nothing else :D )
Just.... Do It Yourself. That's the best MSE advice there :)

Also why did you take it for a service immediately after buying the car?

You either DIY, or you take to a cheaper garage to do it for you, who have no (money) connection with the dealer.

I think you also need some punctuation.

Surely a clutch, like most parts on a car, are wear and tear items and you, as the owner, need to replace them as and when required, without blaming the garage?

It's not like you will go to the garage and demand they put a new tyre on the car if you have a puncture?

We can assume you tested the car before you bought it. That included the clutch. You were happy with it then, but it broke and needs replacement. This is a fact of car ownership.

bet inc cam belt, as my outlander doesn't cost that to service and its a lot more expensive service wise
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

    Well... possibly.
I'd not conside a timing belt as a full service, more of a "specific once-in-a-while mainenance item that needs to be done unless you want the engine to die".

But again, people should not be complaining about that - it's a normal part of car ownership and needs to be done.
