Best way to drain tofu

I'm not sure if this is in the right board so forgive me if it's not.
After eating a tofu dish at Tampopo recently, I want to start eating it more often but I read that you have to drain it.
Can anyone recommend the best way to do this and for how long? I did actually find a tofu press online that presses/drains it for you but it's £25 (no way am I paying that much...)
Any help appreciated!

Place the tofu in a dish with lots of kitchen roll underneath and a heavy pan on top. Change the wet kitchen roll from time to time0

I wrap it in a couple of tea towels (we don't buy kitchen paper) put it on a plate then put a plate on top which I pile with other things (jars/bags of carrots/a bowl of fruit) in the fridge and leave all day whilst I'm at work. Come back and it's lovely and firm.0

I do the same as above, but a hint if you aren't used to cooking with tofu - don't buy and try and drain silken tofu, it doesn't work! You need the firmer stuff. I went through three packs before someone told me which brand to go for...0

Everyone has their technique.
If I've forgotten to take it out before dinner, i'll usually press my hands round it above the sink (squeezing out surface water) before wrapping it in kitchen roll and placing a large pot on it.
Usually then change the kitchen roll and press it with my hands a bit more.
Or there's a tofu press on Amazon, haven't bought one myself, but i've been tempted to cut down wasting kitchen roll:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
Thanks for the tips guys. Ideally I want to be able to leave it unattended to drain (eg when I'm at work). That's why I'm not keen on the kitchen roll technique and wanted to try other options0

I leave it all day in the fridge wrapped in tea towels (see above) and it works a treat!0 -

No reason why you can't do that - I do!0
