  • Talk to me about broadband please folks. I've been with Virgin forever but it's becoming slow and unreliable, struggling even to stream from now TV with no other devices being used. And of course, I'm paying too much!

Anyone recommend anything different or anyone to avoid?

    Routers
Unless your network is hooked directly into the modem, your router is the next big factor in Internet speeds. A wireless or wired router splits your modem’s signal up so that more than one device can use it. If the router does not support high-speed connections, the speed of your modem or ISP does not matter because it is being bottlenecked by the router. Wireless-N, for instance, offers much faster Wi-Fi transfer rates than wireless-G.

Ways to speed up your connection

    Test a different modem/router
    Scan for viruses
    Check for on-system interference
    Check your filters
Try getting rid of your cordless phone
    Plug in/instead of wifi
    Check for external interference
    Shorten and replace cables
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
    Update firmware and software regularly
    Find your router/ISP’s best settings
Check the cabling and do a line test

Further details can be found here

May not solve your problem but its good to know what can affect you internet speeds

After being ripped of for ages by BT and realising I was paying over £50 a month I have just switched to John lewis I got £40 gift card and £50 quidco and for line rental, anytime phone calls and unlimited internet I pay £25 a month . the switch was smooth and no interruption to service and my speed is a third quicker . maybe not as good as some but I was very pleased xxx

Even when you are on a dongle?

I should imagine so, assuming your dongle is still at home and active when you are out.

Then it would act just the same as a router. If you want to be absolutely certain you could ask the seller before you buy, but I would be surprised if it didn't work as it acts the same way as a router.

Can I ask if anyone recalls how much the loreal sport set were last year I have tried searching but that did not work and then went back to the start of the thread but I could be skimming for hours. It just out of interest. I am thinking about 50p

Reading back has made me a sad as there are a few lovely posters who helped lots that no longer post :)

If you are lurking I hope you are all ok
  • Thanks to the poster who referred to the discounts code page for the red letter voucher, just bought 3 lovely presents, a Champneys manicure and 2x indoor skydiving lessons. Thrilled.
